In this project, the term surface computing relates to the special kind of two dimensional sheets capable of communicating with the objects above (not physically attached but at the proximity) the sheet to transfer data and power, or recognising the objects on it.
One of the platforms suitable for surface computing is based on inductive coupling. The 2D sheet is an array of small coils connected both to the power supply and communication modules. Provided that the objects on the sheet are equipped with secondary coils, the objects can communicate with the surface by inductive coupling. Other features of the 2D sheets are also based on interaction of the coils.
Especially together with finger-touch monitoring technology, surface computing has various applications in wireless sensor networking, human-computer interaction, computer games and etc.
The idea of this thesis is to design and implement of a 2D sheet, based on inductive coupling, capable of communicating with the object on the sheet for power providing, data communication and position recognition. Moving of the objects is a rather new idea which is expected to be considered as well.
Finally the implemented sheet will be modified to an especial application like computer games or etc.
