Current Projects and Research Activities

• Within the NCCR MICS - Terminodes - IP9: Communicating Embedded Systems project, I'm working on coordinated and energy-efficient multi-hop media-access and routing protols for quasi-static wireless sensor networks. Also I'm looking at issues of deploying and debugging a sensor networks.
• For implementations, I'm using our BTnode platform which runs our BTnut on top of the Ethernut Nut/OS .

Other Projects

• libxine-java provides Java bindings to the versatile xine multimedia player library and allows Java apps to play almost any media format in an AWT Canvas and in fullscreen mode on Mac OS X and Linux.
• nmSync, a distributed file synchronized tool for disconnected operation, uses portable media (USB sticks, SD cards, Floppy disks, etc.. ) to transport updates between file repositories. It is in beta stage, but can be used with some precaution on Mac OS X and Windows.
• Fink provides a convenient way to use open-source unix software on Mac OS X. I'm providing relevant fink packages to work with the BTnodes and Mac OS X (avr-binutils, avr-gcc, avr-libc and uisp). You can get a list of accepted fink packages by me, and of new ones that are pending in the new package submissions tracker.
• The LIRC Mac OS X port is in the CVS.
• An Infared Receiver and LIRC drivers for the audio input.
• ComLink, a Palm OS Application that enables the IR interface on Handspring Visor devices.

Curriculum Vitae

Matthias Ringwald received a masters degree in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2001. During his masters thesis, he worked 4 months at the Aware Home of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. Since May 2002 he is a research assistant in the Distributed Systems Group at the ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
