Guntram Graef

That's me
graef@teco.uni-karlsruhe.de

I studied Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe from 1992 to 1998. At the same time I worked as an IT-consultant in projects for several companies including Dolphin Communications, Mercedes Benz and SAP.

Since January 1999 I am working as a research assistant at the Telecooperation office in Karlsruhe conducting research in the field of Web-Engineering.

TecO Responsibilties

Recently I completed two projects with Hewlett-Packard, in which my colleage Martin Gaedke and I consulted HP and Agilent in settting up a flexible and extensible Web-service infrastructure for their global intranets. The resulting system is called E-Victor and has been developed according to the Web Composition Process Model, which originates from our research group.

I also consulted SAP Research in two smaller projects. In the first project I researched the architecture of SAP's Internet Transaction Server and provided consulting to help prepare a strategic decision on behalf of SAP's internet server architecture. In the second project with SAP I developed a concept for inter-service cooperation in a massively distributed and platform independent environment on the basis of UPnP, which was demonstrated in a testbed developed with students at TecO.

For an upcoming project with SAP that will focus on development of adaptive Web applications  I am currently looking for students who would like to research one of its sub-topics in the context of a study- or diploma thesis or become part of our team as a HiWi.

Research Interests

My main research interest is in Web-engineering and adaptive Web-applications.

More and more Web-sites grow from a small collection of static documents to full-scale applications showing the same or an even higher level of complexity and dynamics as classical software applications. This makes it quite interesting if not urgently necessary to think about useful ways of applying (software) engineering principles to the process of development and maintenance of Web-sites.

More information you can find on the Web-engineering homepage.

Besides Web-engineering and adaptive applications I am currently researching tuple-spaces, user profiling and new applications of XML.
