The world is increasingly being “technified”, yet many people can’t use modern ICT due to Disability, (Digital) Illiteracy, or Aging:
- We don’t have solutions for all.
- It’s too expensive for many.
- People don’t know what exists that would help them.
- Access to ONE device is no longer sufficient: access to all encountered devices is needed…
Three basic things are needed if you can’t use the technology that the
world around you requires you to use:
- It has to be possible for you to figure out what you need
- You need to be able to make that happen to any device you encounter
- The solution that you need needs to exist
Prosperity4All aims at delivering fully functional key elements –as opposed to “research prototypes”–of a holistic inclusion infrastructure that will entice, engage, and enable stakeholders and individuals to meet the above requirements and create or deliver the required solutions and/or services. It is self‐evident that one project alone, even an IP like Prosperity4All,cannot solve all problems and create all required services within 4 years. However, what we are promising is to lay a sound foundation for this and create a solid base‐infrastructure with incremental added value t
hat will enable the full growth into such an ecosystem. As a complete proof‐of‐concept, Prosperity4All will also deliver numerous real‐life implementations of services and applications that are accessible for all, thus proving the feasibility and applicability of the proposed ecosystem infrastructure across technology and user domains. TECO leads the collection of building blocks for this infrastructure.
Future computing environments as driven by the notions of pervasive computing are expected to give rise to information technology that is embedded in everyday life and is spontaneously formed from ubiquitous devices, objects, and services. The opportunities are manifold as Artefact Computing does not require any digital literacy to interact implicitly with a system through tangible interfaces. A specific problem that TECO will address in the context of the Prosperity4All project is the interaction with a myriad of different devices and objects in future assistive technologies. TECO also leads the efforts in evaluating the tools regarding their usability for developers to build implement novel real‐life implementations of services and application.
