Overview
The project systematically evaluates four finger-to-ear ECG configurations using custom earbuds that integrate an in-ear electrode and a rear finger-contact electrode. In a study with 30 participants, the system was compared against chest-reference ECG under stationary conditions and during music playback, talking, and walking. Left-finger configurations achieved the strongest signal quality and ECG morphology preservation, while the study also revealed a trade-off between signal fidelity and user comfort.
Our Goal
Our goal is to investigate how earbuds can support practical, high-quality ECG sensing by identifying electrode configurations that balance signal fidelity, morphology preservation, robustness, and comfort. The project aims to advance earables toward more capable cardiac sensing while highlighting remaining challenges such as motion artefacts and clinical validation.
