Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is the result of the merger of the University of Karlsruhe and the Research Center Karlsruhe. It is a unique institution in Germany, which combines the mission of a university with that of a large-scale research center of the Helmholtz Association. With 8000 employees and an annual budget of EUR 650 millions, KIT is one of the largest research and education institutions worldwide. The Telecooperation Office (TecO) of the KIT is a well-renowned research group in Ubiquitous Computing and wireless sensor networks.
The Telecooperation Office and the Chair for Pervasive Computing Systems is looking for a
The position is funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) within the project SenseCast: Context Prediction for Optimisation of Network Parameters in Wireless Sensor Networks

Your research position is concentrated on applying context recognition and prediction methods for wireless sensor network protocol optimization. The candidate is expected to construct creative solutions in these areas based on scientifically excellent work, producing distinguished publications. The SenseCast project studies the possibility of using context recognition and prediction based on sensory data to shape network parameters and understand network behavior in wireless sensor networks. Specifically, the use of this information to predict and handle critical situations is examined. Using this information, it will be possible to optimize network parameters to a point where properties such as reduced energy consumption or latency times can be guaranteed. The topic is appropriate for candidates who see their focus in the areas of artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, context recognition, networks and other related fields.
You are dedicated and open-minded, speak either German or English as a first language and work well independently. You are also inventive and have a structured, goal-oriented way of going about things. You also wish to cooperate with other scientists within the department and are always looking for contact to other research groups in your field. The theoretical requirements necessary for the position come easy to you and you enjoy the challenge, nevertheless you are not afraid to make the jump into more practical applications.
Prerequisite for your application is a university degree at the Master's level or doctoral level in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or another related domain.
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages applications from minority group members and women. Applicants with disabilities will receive preference with equivalent qualifications.
Please submit your application consisting of a CV, portfolio as well as copies of all credentials, transcripts and certificates either electronically to beigl@teco.edu by mail by Mar. 29th, 2010 to:
