Andrea Sayer [Thesis (German)]
Andrea analyzed deeply the different methods of programming sensor nodes using the TinyOS 1.x operating system. Starting from the hardware and the system architecture, she went on to look into component-based programming using nesC and galsC. Code examples underpin statements and support experienced developers. Considerations of virtual machines and a presentation of existing development tools for application programming on TinyOS conclude the thesis.

Jun developed the Particle Location System (PLS). Based on the principle of Cell-of-Origin established by the XBridge of the Particle Computer system, he build a set of java applets which let one define a hierachical location model, a graphical floorplan (including mapping of location descriptions of the model to locations) and present the current locations of Particles as well as the location history. 

Michael Leuchtner [www] [poster]
Michael addressed the problem of resolving RFID tags in a Peer-2-Peer environment. Instead of using a hierachical system like the object naming system (ONS) from the autoidcenter, we prefered a P2P approach. Advantages are the easy extensibility of the approach and the lack of a central control instance which contributes to privacy requirements of nowadays enterprises. Challenges were the encryption of data where Michael proposed a solution.

Adam Eames [paper]
Adam did an intership in spring 2003 at TecO. He developed the first DigiClip. A system and device for paper based document tracking, synchroniztion with its electronic counterpart and integrity control. A Particle node was attached to a physical document which links to the electronic original. The Particle node comprises a page count sensor and could control the integrity of the physical document. Changes in the electronic document were notified on the physical one and embedded in a Particle infrastructure, the overall system could impose spatial integrity criteria and tracking capabilities. Adam's internship was done in cooperation with SAP Research CEC, Karlsruhe.

Serge Ngussi [paper]
Serge work in the domain of securing processes in mobile enterprise application contexts. He implemented a proximity device which serves as additional input for authentification of transactions in mobile computing environments. He used the BTNode platform from Smart-Its project. Serge's work was done in cooperation with SAP Research CEC, Karlsruhe.

Daniel Spanagel [www]
Daniel analysed in his thesis the decision process of customers in retail stores. From his findings he derived various methods of support actions to influence the customer in his/her decision by the use of calm technology. Technical parameter of such a technology were derived and implemented as extention of the SmartShelf prototype. In particular, he focused on the use of the SmartShelf as an in-situ recommender system similar to the one used on popular sites like amazon.com. His implementation successfully applied this concept in the domain of retail stores.
